If I were there

 If I were there I’d set you free;

I’d cut you down from off that tree.

I’d bathe your wounds, and wash your face;

I’d dress you in the finest lace.

I’d take those thorns from off your head;

I’d lay you on a feather bed.

I’d worship You from head to toe;

I’d never, ever, let you go.

That is how I see it now ........

But if I was really in that crowd,

I’d probably snarl, and shout, and run

Just like the others, having fun.

Jeering, throwing sticks and stones

I’d do my best to break your bones;

I’d call you King, King of the Jews;

So glad I wasn’t in your shoes.

And then I’d watch you call on high

To your father, before you die.

You said, ”Father, forgive them for

They know not what they do.”

Lord Jesus you opened up the door

To the path that leads to You.

And as You take your one last breath,

I’d know that I had caused your death.

Lord, I’m sorry for the things I’ve done

I know you really are God’s Son.

This is our Church, these are our people

I see we have some new friends who’ve come along today

To see what we are all about and if they’d want to stay.

I thought it would be useful to help them feel at ease

If I could make some introductions so pin  you’re lugs back please.

We are a congregation, of that there is no doubt

Varied in our own beliefs from casual to devout

Our leaders Stuart and Peter, do us very proud. .

Whilst in our interregnum, they always pull a crowd.

They do a sterling job they preaches and they plays

No one sleeps when either speaks and booming voice give praise.

Our Hosts are Roy and Meryl, not the only ones with a pool,

But this is where we always meet when we want to play the fool

No one’s a teenager, within our little flock

But you would never know it when you see them roll and rock.

Dennis and Sarah are Church Wardens who make things run so smooth.

Partners  Leslie and Rudi are also in the groove

Peter Cartland is our bouncer, he does the job with style

If in Church you misbehave he’ll come and sit on you for a while.

Doctor  Peter does his best to keep us fit and healthy

His advice is free, which  is just as well cos none of us is wealthy.

The Bridge collects our revenues and keeps them in a tin.

He keeps account of every amount and to the bank pays in.

We soon expect a new vicar who’ll keep us in our places

We know they’re nice, just what we want

And we look forward to meeting their faces.

We meet together Sundays, at eleven on the dot

With joy we sing our hearts out, stiff and starchy we are not

And now you’ve met our little band I’m  sure that you’ll agree

It’s not so much a group of friends it’s more a family

So why not come and join us and help us raise the roof

It’s the only way you’re going to find the undeniable Truth.
